Blood and serum are required.
Blood for CBC
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube and send minimum of 1 mL of whole blood. If there is a delay in transport of >5 hours of draw, send specimen refrigerated <24 hours of draw. (Hemolyzed or clotted specimen is not acceptable.)
Serum for HBsAg, Rubella Screen and RPR
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s). Spin down and send 2 mL of serum refrigerated. If there is a delay in transport of >5 hours of draw, send specimen frozen in plastic vial.
Blood for Type and Screen
Draw 7 ml pink top (EDTA) tube (minimum 5 mL). Blood bank armband not required for outpatients.
